I got my print order from a company called FauxFilm today and thought I'd write a few thoughts on it.
Firstly I ordered about 14 prints from them on their Pro Satin Photo Paper. Its a very heavy weight paper and feels nice to hold. The prints themselves have come out very well with deep rich colours and a good sharpness to them. The paper has a nice sheen to it, not matt and not overly shiny in my opinion. Ordered on Sunday and received them today, which is pretty good considering they've been printed on a HP large format printer (so they only run certain papers on certain days).
There were a couple of downsides but nothing that would stop me form ordering from them again. Firstly the photos arrived rolled in a cardboard tube rather than flat. I know this makes them easier to ship and probably a bit cheaper to ship but as the paper is fairly thick is does retain its curl. Although thinking about it the prints probably come off the printer slightly curved (I've seen one of these printers in action, its quite scary to watch!).
Secondly I had a bit of trouble using their online uploaded. They use a little Flash app that wouldn't work at all on my Mac and took some effort to get it to work on my PC. I found it could only cope with 4 photos being uploaded at a time and would ignore the rest. So it took a while but I got there in the end. You can contact them for a FTP account on their server if you have an order that has a lot of photos in it.
Overall, excellent prints and excellent service. Better start thinking of what I want printing next!
