St Mary's Light House

If you're in the North East of the Uk and want a place to take some photos for an afternoon I highly recommend taking a trip out to St Mary's Lighthouse. Its about 30 minutes outside of Newcastle-upon-Tyne (more on that later) and has a varied selection of things to take pictures of.

Theres the lighthouse itself which you can go in which I think costs around £5. I didn't go in so I'm not sure whats in there but it might be worth a look.

Around the lighthouse there is a rocky beach, a sandy beach and some old pier supports (or at least something similar). Also a walk along the beach will bring you to Whitley Bay.

Parking is very easy and costs a reasonable 50p an hour. I recommend parking on the first car park along the road that approaches the lighthouse as the one slightly closer to the lighthouse was very busy even in the mid-afternoon time I was there. That car park does have an ice cream van though if you want to treat yourself!

Shooting in Shrewsbury

I ventured to Shrewsbury this weekend and took my camera complete with its new polarized filter with me. The filter is pretty effective, just got to remember to compensate in the camera for the slight blue tinge it gives to the images. had to correct these after shooting but next time I'll know to correct first. Walked through the town to the castle then walked back to the car along the river. Stayed nice and warm all afternoon which was a pleasant change given the recent weather we've had round these parts.

I'm still practicing but I shall master this filter. Just want to try it with some sunsets now and tonight is looking like it might be a good evening. We'll see.
